First-graders at Parkwood Elementary School prompted their school to help others by creating a fund-raiser to support hurricane relief efforts. Through the leadership of these students, Parkwood raised more than $900 to donate to the Red Cross.
The school also took the opportunity to turn the fund-raiser into a lesson on money by requesting students and staff bring in different pieces of money for each day: pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday and dollars on Friday. The students' teachers are Jessica Gerst, Kristin Gosa, Greg Stoltz and Jen Ulmer.
Parkwood first-graders are shown with the buckets they used to collect money on different days.
