Pattonville High School's college and career counseling program was selected to receive a community grant from the Walmart Community Grants Team and Bridgeton Walmart. Michelle Luraschi, Pattonville's college and career preparation coordinator/counselor, recently accepted the grant for $2,500, which will be used to support the Pattonville College Academy.
The college academy is a summer program designed to give first-generation, college-bound students support and knowledge about the college planning and search process. Students in the academy learn about goal setting, college resume writing, how to compare colleges, how to start the college search, college admissions, scholarships, financial aid, letters of recommendation, essay writing tips and ACT test-taking tips. On the final day of the academy, students visit area college campuses. The program receives support each year from various businesses in the community.
