Pattonville social worker Carla Gardner was recently named Missouri's 2017-2018 School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social Workers Association of Missouri. The award recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding contributions in his or her service to students and their families, shows initiative in providing services and contributes to a positive image for the school social work profession.
As a social worker, Gardner has implemented and facilitates many programs, including the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports program and several crisis intervention programs. In Pattonville, she shares her time and services among the following schools: Bridgeway Elementary School, Parkwood Elementary School, Remington Traditional School, Willow Brook Elementary School and Pattonville Heights Middle School.
Gardner was also one of several state-level Social Worker of the Year honorees recognized by the Midwest School Social Work Council during its Midwest School Social Work Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. The council serves 11 states in the Midwest.
"This award is presented to one social worker from each state whose work in schools and communities exemplifies the highest quality of school social work services," said Christy McCoy, recognition committee chairperson for the Midwest School Social Work Council. "Carla's passion, dedication and professional expertise are a few of the reasons why she was selected as Missouri's School Social Worker of the Year."
